ML 2008 PROPOSAL & FUNDING PROCESS

2008 Projects (updated 5/26/08)
The LCCMR funding recommendations for projects to begin July 1, 2008, were adopted by the legislature on Sunday, May 18, and signed into law by the Governor on Friday, May 23. The final version of the bill appears in Conference Committee Report on S.F. 2492 and the final language will appear in M.L. 2008 Chapter 367, SF 2492 (HF 2745). All appropriations were passed at the exact funding levels recommended by the LCCMR. A total of nearly $23.5 million, primarily from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, has been appropriated to 72 individual projects around the state. Projects will protect and improve habitat and water quality, collect essential natural resource information, and provide environmental education.

PROCESS UPDATE (updated 10/12/2007)

The LCCMR members will be reviewing all of the proposals.  Those selected for further consideration will be invited to a 30 minute session before the commission in October.  (See the calendar for scheduled meeting dates.) The sessions will include a 5-10 minute presentation with 20-25 minutes available for question and answers.  All project managers will be contacted by LCCMR staff as to their status.

On October 9, LCCMR members finalized their decision about which of the proposals received for 2008 funding should be brought in to present before the commission.  This first cut effectively narrowed the number of proposals still under consideration from the original 118 received, requesting a total of $98.5 million, down to 63 proposals, requesting a total of $79.6 million.  This narrowing process is necessary because the $22.8 million in Trust Fund dollars available for 2008 were cumulatively requested at a rate of more than four dollars to every one dollar available.  Proposal presentations will occur through October 22 and further narrowing will occur as commission members make allocation decisions on October 29-30.

The proposals chosen to present to the commission are listed above in the daily presentation schedules (PDF documents).  The original text of each proposal can be reached in the PDF by clicking on the project 'Title'. Additionally, as presentations occur and materials are accumulated, we will post those materials through links under 'Presentation Materials'.
